Designed by Piet Oudolf and planted in 1999. After 10 year's growth, this famous garden has recently been extensively replanted over the winter of 2009 / 2010. There are around 100 different species of perennials and over 20 types of grasses in the garden. Click Here to download the planting list for the Millennium Garden. In the Autumn, the garden is awash with the most stunning hues.
Spring reveals carpets of Iris and Puschkinia bulbs, with fragrant shrubs such as Viburnum bodnatense 'Dawn'. From mid to late Spring a lush tapestry of foliage emerges, followed into the Summer by early perennials such as Aruncus, Astrantia, Salvia and Stachys. Self-seeded Thalictrum aquilegifolium apear amongst the popular thistle heads of Eryngium 'Blue Star', whilst the Wisteria sinensis puts on a stunning display.

The Summer months present the garden is its full glory, ready to delight visitors. As Summer gives way to Autumn, early Autumn flowers such as Aster 'Twilight', and Vernonia 'Mammuth' can be seen and enjoyed. The wonderful Autumn colours of all the varied perennial foliage and grasses are a lush spectacle at this time.
In the Winter, structural elements of the garden come to the fore. These include white barked Birch trees, Cornus stems and dried grass heads.
The diverse seasonal needs of wildlife have not been forgotten. There are butterflies galore from early Summer through to early Autumn, while birds hunt for nesting material in Spring, grubs throughout the Summer and then seeds from the flowers from the Autumn into the Winter months.
