Dazzling dragonflies at Pensthorpe

Dazzling dragonflies at Pensthorpe

Wednesday, 30th June 2010

For an inspiring insight into summer nature and wildlife, guided dragonfly walks are taking place throughout July and August at Norfolk nature reserve Pensthorpe, famous for hosting BBC Springwatch.

Starting from 12.30pm and taking place on July 10th, 24th and August 7th , the walks will offer visitors a unique opportunity to experience the natural habitats within the reserve with resident wildlife expert, Thomas Spencer. He will be identifying different species of these astounding masters of the air, which are a real feature at Pensthorpe in summer months.

Join one of the walks around the stunning gardens, the wildflower meadow and other fascinating habitats to learn more about these incredible insects, from their beautiful range of colours and patterns to the varying species such as the large and impressive Emperor Dragonfly. Do you know the difference between a dragonfly and damselfly? Thomas will answer any questions and to offer advice.  Dragonflies and damselflies can be found in any freshwater habitat, so Pensthorpe is the perfect place to watch them.

Pensthorpe owner, Deb Jordan, said: 'Pensthorpe has a wide range of wildlife and summer is a wonderful time to learn about what's here and to explore. Thomas is a very knowledgeable guide; I'm sure visitors will enjoy the chance to observe these extraordinary creatures.'

The workshops are £2.00 per person, in addition to the entrance fee to the reserve. The courses are always popular so prior booking is essential. For more information or to book your place call 01328 851465 or visit www.pensthorpe.com. Follow Pensthorpe on Twitter - @Pensthorpe.
