Springwatch - get involved...

So much to see and do...all year round

For the three years, Pensthorpe played host to the popular BBC Springwatch series and had a fabulous time doing so.

The 2010 the series was compulsive viewing with more Springwatch 'firsts' added to the list and some real characters emerging from trees, reeds, lakes and meadows.

But nature doesn't stop rolling the minute the cameras do. The seasons slip round, the visitors (both feathered and human) come and go -  passing through to rest and feed or just take in the tranquility, the landscapes adapt and evolve, the leaves dramatically change colour and drop to the forest floor...but all the time, all this while, there is still so much to see and do. We dont stop here at Pensthorpe! Year round our Wardens are up at the crack of dawn, booted and ready for whatever the day brings. With so many residents and visiting birds relying on them there is always a job to do and always a suprise in store. Our daily sightings boards around the park will prove testament to this...

Everyone here finds pleasure in different things, be it hunkered down in a cosy hide over looking still waters, not a sound in the air, just the whisper of the wind through the reeds and the lone call of a wader, or sat out on one of our secret benches tucked in at the waters edge, catching a (rare) quiet moment all to themselves,  taking in the stunning view across the reserve..others just prefer to be stuck right in amongst the thick of it, knee deep in geese with a huge bucket of feed, revelling in the cacophony of gaggling and honking, wings flapping, feet splashing, skidding across the water to land in a mass feeding frenzy. But one thing we all enjoy, no matter what the season, what time of day, and often no matter the weather... is bringing this to you. We love getting you involved.

So because of this, because we believe its important and because we know it's fun, we try and give you every opportunity to get involved and bring you a special Springwatch moment too.

Throughtout the year we run, events, workshops, volunteer days and courses to suit everyones taste, everyones ability and every season. With expert guides and wardens, photographers and personalities we try to bring you everything we experince here at a very special reserve, in a very special part of the country.

Why not have a look at our events page and come along to some of our Summer long activites, or pluck up the courage and edge your down the drive for our spooky Halloween celebration. We even have a long boat invasion during our Medieaval Spectacular and every year Father Christmas drops in to feed our winter resients and deliver a present or two.

We run photographic workshops, teaching you to get the best out of your camera and local wildlife, Fungi Forrays exploring our glorious woodland in Autumn and our ever popular guided Walks & Talks around designer inspired gardens with out Head Gardener and Warden on hand to chat and enlighten. You can even jump onboard our landrover and get to see a side of conservation grade farming you'd never normally get to see with owner Bill Jordan.

We may not have cameras rolling, but the action really doesn't stop - so come along, get involved and experience Pensthorpe our way...
