Become a Water Warrior
As part of our annual “Wild about the Wensum” community event, we are offering the Norfolk guiding and scouting community the opportunity to win a free visit, for the winning unit, to Pensthorpe Natural Park hosted by our Wildlife Education Officer.
Now in its 13th year the event, held at Pensthorpe Natural Park, on Sunday 12th May 2019, celebrates the natural beauty and importance of the Wensum Valley in a fun and informative way.
This year, we are celebrating fresh water; highlighting its significance to all life-forms on the planet and raising awareness about the importance of conserving this precious resource.
We are inviting Norfolk guiding and scouting units to enter our “Become a Water Warrior” competition. We hope this will be an enjoyable and educational activity that will engage, educate and excite young people.
Entering the competition
To take part in the competition we are asking leaders to work with their units to produce a display depicting why water is important to humans and wildlife and how it can best be preserved as a sustainable resource.
The display could take the form of drawings, paintings, video, photography, poems, short stories or even a combination of the different media. The entry can be completed as a unit or individual member activity; whichever suits the leaders. Each unit can submit multiple entries or have the members vote for the best display and put forward the winner.
Once the display is complete, we ask that you send us your entries for judging. All entries need to be submitted to Pensthorpe by Friday 26th April 2019, if they are to be considered.
The final judging will take place before “Wild about the Wensum” and the winning and runner up displays will be exhibited at the event together with a selection of the other entries.
Each submission will need to be clearly labelled with:
- Unit name
- Unit contact
- Age group (or age of individual)
- Contact number
First prize: Next year we launch our new education programme, a series of interactive activities designed to help children and adults learn about wildlife, conservation and the environment. These activities will be supported by our Wildlife Education Officer.
The unit submitting the winning entry will be given a free day visit to Pensthorpe for the members of the unit who built the display, plus leaders. The day will be hosted by our Wildlife Education Officer (see terms below).
Runners up prize: The members of the unit which wins the runners up prize will each receive a voucher for one free child visit to the park when accompanied by an adult. (see terms below)
