HRH The Duke of Edinburgh

A look back on fond memories of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh

The team here at Pensthorpe and Pensthorpe Conservation Trust are deeply saddened by the news of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh’s passing.

Bill and Deb Jordan fondly recall memories of His Royal Highness, after having had a proud association with him as the Patron of Pensthorpe Conservation Trust for over 30 years. Bill Jordan looks back at Pensthorpe’s 20th Anniversary, attended by Prince Phillip, recollecting His Royal Highness talking about what a great pleasure it was to revisit a reserve he had officially opened 20 years before, in 1988, and noted that the landscape and the wildlife was still thriving.

These photographs show His Royal Highness at the official opening of Pensthorpe in 1988, as well as his return visit to us in 2008, for our 20th Anniversary, alongside Bill Jordan and the late, great professor David Bellamy OBE, who was honorary Vice-President of Pensthorpe Conservation Trust from 2016.

As a passionate conservationist and outdoor enthusiast, he will be sorely missed and our thoughts are with Her Majesty The Queen and the rest of the Royal Family during this difficult time.
