Work experience student joins us
21 Sep 2017
Lucy Dickens, a 17-year-old student from Easton and Otley College, is volunteering with us for one day a week hoping to gain experience in general conservation, with a focus on rivers and lakes.
Lucy has a particular interest in rivers and fish and is hoping to become a marine conservationist after gaining the qualifications she needs from Easton and Otley College.
She is currently studying a Level 3 Diploma in Countryside Management which is the equivalent to completing three A Levels. The course is two years in duration and afterwards she plans to progress onto a Foundation Degree in Fisheries.
In order for Lucy to pass her course she is required to complete 150 hours of work experience. She has chosen to come to Pensthorpe as she knew the level of conservation carried out here is of a high standard, having visited us as a child.
So far she has spent 2 days with us and has been assisting the wardens with the cutting down of hay meadows and the lake islands in order to promote growth and development of a wider range of plant species and a better environment for our bird collection.
Lucy will be with us every Tuesday throughout the winter and we are very excited to be working with such an enthusiastic and friendly student.
